What’s the process?

First of all, send us a message at the bottom of this page to get the ball rolling. Try to include as much detail as you can think of, for instance descriptions of the issues you’re experiencing, how to replicate them and any troubleshooting steps already taken. If you can include photos of the fault, that’s even better.

Once we’ve reviewed your case details, we will provide you with an educated guess on the problem and a rough estimate of the time and cost involved to repair, and you can then decide how to proceed. At this point, there’s no charge to you whatsoever.

If you’re happy with that, ship us your device and we’ll get to work with a proper diagnosis. Once we have a 100% confirmed fault and repair estimate, and before we begin any actual fix, we’ll be in contact to confirm you’re happy to proceed with the work.

What are the costs involved?

For starters, there’s no initial cost at all for submitting your request below.

If you decide to proceed with our service and ship in your device, there’s a $20 appraisal fee while we identify the root cause. At this point we will provide you a detailed breakdown of the costs involved to repair.

  • If you decide not to proceed with the repair, we’ll ship your unit back to you at no extra cost, and you’ll only be charged the appraisal fee.
  • If you do want to go ahead with the repair, we’ll get to work and give you full status updates as we go. If we find additional problems along the way, we will stop work and seek approval to continue with an updated estimate.

The repair itself is covered by a no-fix-no-fee scheme, so if we proceed with work and are unable to fix your device, we’ll send your device back and you won’t be charged for any used parts or labour time.

Our technician time is charged at $40 per hour, and the price for all parts required for the repair are passed on as is with no additional markup.

Other FAQs

Q. How can I get a price estimate?
A. Feel free to contact us below with as much detail and information as possible (including photos if you can), and we’ll get back to you with an estimate of work as soon as possible.

Q. How do you charge?
A. We only charge for time and materials. This means that if your job turns out to be easier than expected, you only pay for the actual time we worked on it. If we come across anything unexpected that may cost more than we estimated, we’ll discuss it with you first before doing any extra work.

Q. How can I get my device to you?
A. Given the current climate, at the moment we can only accept items that are shipped directly to our workshop. We’re happy to discuss our recommendations for shipping and packaging to ensure your item travels as safely as possible.

Q. Where do you source your parts?
A. All over! We try to source new replacement parts if they are available, and if not original parts from donor machines. If neither are possible, we’ll seek out replica parts from sources such as eBay/Aliexpress vendors.

Q. What happens if I send my device in, but you can’t fix it?
A. We work on a no-fix-no-pay scheme, so if this happens, we will send your device back and you will only be charged the initial appraisal fee.

Q. Do you guarantee your work?
A. All repair work undertaken by Silvestron’s Bits and Bytes is covered by a 12-month warranty, including parts and labour. Basically if it fails again in the same way, we’ll fix it again for no cost (excluding shipping charges)
